Time Out Market
flavours from across the city.
Time Out Market shows what happens when a 50-year-old media company brings together the best parts of a city in one place. Its editors carefully select and curate a unique dining and cultural experience. After the huge success of Time Out Market Boston, the concept came to downtown Montréal at the Eaton Centre. Here’s how a signature Montreal Monuments illustration was transformed and animated into a 40-foot motion-graphics centrepiece for the market floor.

The Ask.
When Time Out Market launched its popular food hall in Montréal, they wanted a visual centerpiece that truly represented the 514. It had to capture the city’s energy and the excitement of a night out. The biggest challenge was the canvas: a huge 40-foot screen on the market floor, playing on repeat for every diner. The artwork needed to feel unmistakably Montreal, work at a large scale, and stand out as the visual heart of the space.
The strategy.
We started with a well-known Montreal Monuments illustration and adapted it just for the Time Out Market. To fit the energetic, social vibe of the food hall, we gave the artwork a 'night on the town' look and brought it to life with animation. Turning the original illustration into motion graphics added movement and atmosphere, turning familiar Montreal landmarks into a lively, nighttime celebration that plays nonstop on the venue's 40-foot screen.
The Solution.
The animated motion-graphics centerpiece is at the heart of the Time Out Market Montréal experience. Shown on a 40-foot screen, the updated Montreal Monuments artwork offers diners a moving celebration of the city as they eat. By turning a signature illustration into a large-scale animation with the energy of a night out, the piece creates a local, lively, and unmistakably Montreal atmosphere throughout the space.
