DRW / Vigilant

mural designed for Precision.

DRW / Vigilant is a principal trading firm that uses technology, research, and risk management to trade across different asset classes and instruments. For their offices, they wanted artwork that reflected the same precision as their business. Here’s how a hand-painted mural turned a clean, vector-style illustration into a sharp wall installation.

The Ask.

DRW commissioned a mural for their offices, using the existing Montreal Monuments art piece as the starting point. The brief came together over a brainstorming session at a local coffee shop, where the real question emerged: could the clean, vector-based digital artwork be faithfully recreated as a painted mural? For a firm built on precision and technical discipline, the artwork couldn't look approximate or loose — it needed the same crisp, exacting quality that defines the way DRW works.

The strategy.

The approach centred on translating the precision of vector illustration into a physical, hand-painted form. Rather than loosening the artwork for the wall, we committed to preserving its clean lines and sharp edges at scale. The mural was executed using customized masking tape to achieve crisp, exact boundaries between colours and shapes. A significant amount of time and care went into the masking process itself — methodically taping out each area to ensure the finished mural read as sharp and clean as the digital file that inspired it.

The strategy.

The result is a hand-painted mural that captures the precision of vector-based artwork on a full office wall. By investing in meticulous masking and customized taping techniques, the finished piece delivers the crisp lines and clean edges that mirror DRW / Vigilant's technical, detail-driven approach to business. The Montreal Monuments inspiration brings local character into the workspace, while the exacting execution makes the mural feel as considered and refined as the firm it represents.
