The Montreal Typography Map.
The Montreal Typography Map is an art piece I created to celebrate the island of Montreal in all its glory. It’s a love letter to the city, made entirely with type. Each borough is mapped out using its own name, turning Montreal’s familiar shape into a bold typographic portrait. An original illustration that made its way into galleries, publications, and TV programs around the city.

This was a passion project with a simple, ambitious goal: showcase the island of Montreal in a way that felt fresh, personal and design-led. Rather than a conventional illustrated map, the idea was to celebrate the city through typography alone — capturing every borough and the island's distinctive shape in a single composition. The challenge was making something visually arresting enough to stand on its own as a piece of art, while staying true to the real geography of the city it honours.
The concept used the silhouette of Montreal as its foundation — a shape that lends itself perfectly to a typographic treatment. We built the map entirely from type, fitting the names of the city's boroughs into their geographic locations so the words themselves form the island. The result balances design and accuracy: a piece that works as bold typographic art from a distance and rewards a closer look as a genuine map of Montreal's neighbourhoods. It's a celebration of the city told purely through letterforms. The finished Montreal Typography Map struck a chord well beyond the studio. The original artwork has been showcased at numerous art galleries, featured in publications, and highlighted on television programs — a testament to how strongly the piece resonates with people who love the city. By transforming Montreal's silhouette into a typographic portrait of its boroughs, the work became both a celebrated piece of local art and a distinctive love letter to the island, proving how a simple, well-executed idea can capture a city's identity.
